The long day dedicated to the Downhill began early in the morning with the two Junior races. Among the girls the Austrian Valentina Holl dominates the competition with over 17 seconds ahead of the American Anna Newkirk, which precedes by a couple of tenths the Norwegian Mille Johnset, confirming the positions of the seeding run.
In the men's field the Frenchman Thibaut Daprela repeats the first place of the qualification also winning the final. The podium is completed by the British Henry Kerr and the Australian Patrick Butler.
At 12:30 the time comes for the first big round of the day for the Downhill. The myth of the descent Rachel Atherton scored the best time in the first four split, ceding only in the last part of the track, finishing with 4: 26: 547. His time was beaten by his compatriot Tahnéee Seagrave, the penultimate to go down and the natural favorite after Myriam Nicole's forfeit: she won in Val di Sole for the second consecutive year, with a time of 4: 26: 424. The English was far one second and a half at the last split, recovering and overtaking his compatriot in the last 30 seconds of the race! The podium was completed by the surprise of the qualifications: the European champion Monika Hrastnik detached only 1: 605 from the top. In the Cup ranking Atherton and Seagrave are respectively first and second with 776 and 676 points, overtaking the previous leader Nicole stop at 610 points.
At 1:30 pm the Elite Men race begins with the Italian Loris Revelli, who first assaulted the Black Snake of Val di Sole.
The conditions of the track are completely different from the previous day, drying out with the passage of the 66 athletes at the starting line. The race was very animated with the British Adam Brayton still the author of an excellent time trial, that will keep him on the hot seat for a long time (3: 43: 199, 13th overall). He will be beaten by the descents of two other surprises of the day, the French Baptiste Pierron and Benoit Coulanges (12th and 11th respectively, at the end). From this moment the race is blows up with the descents of the British Reece Wilson and the French Thomas Estaque, the first to fall under 3 minutes and 40 seconds (3:39:54). Aaron Gwin, Finn Iles, Brook MacDonald and Troy Brosnan could not do better than him (respectively 31, 8, 9 and 6). The 2017 World Champion Loic Bruni seemed the only one able to overcome Estaque, but a fall put him out of the game (he will be 28th at the end). The descents of the last five athletes make the adrenaline rise. The first to beat the excellent time scored by Estaque will be the British Laurie Greenland, silver medal at the Val di Sole 2016 World Championships (3: 37: 312). The transalpine Loris Vergier unfortunately fell in the first part (45th), then the other British Danny Hart, gold in Val di Sole in 2016, scored the best time in the first three split, but ceding in the final. The last to start was the leader of the Cup, the French Amaury Pierron who, with a growing race (up to the third split behind Greeland), has confirmed to be definitely passed by the role of surprise to absolute protagonist, winning the third consecutive race, scoring the excellent time of 3: 36: 788. In the Cup he rises to 753 points on the general ranking, followed by Greenland (491) that overcame Brosnan and Gwin (488 and 481), fifth is Danny Hart (451).
