At the UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum, Val di Sole Tourist Board and Grandi Eventi Val di Sole President Luciano Rizzi received the award that officially entered Val di Sole among the 18 destinations in the world that stand out for their vision and strategy for the promotion of cycling
The good news had already arrived during the summer, but on Tuesday, October 26th, at the UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum in Odense (Denmark), Val di Sole was formally introduced among the eighteen UCI Bike Regions officially recognized in the World.
A delegation led by the President of Val di Sole Tourism Board and Grandi Eventi Val di Sole Luciano Rizzi was handed the award that elevates the Val di Sole, already home to numerous world-class events, most recently the UCI MTB World Championships last August, among the destinations that stand out for their vision and strategy linked to the promotion of cycling.
Thanks to major international events and significant investments in the development of cycling infrastructure and policies, Val di Sole has become part of a selected and prestigious club of Bike Regions in the World, alongside territories such as Flanders (Belgium), Limburg (Netherlands), Yorkshire (UK) and the neighboring Tyrol (Austria).
In the last 15 years, Val di Sole has made an impressive stride with events: starting from 2008, this valley of Trentino has hosted three editions of the MTB World Championships (2008, 2016 and 2021), to which 2026 will be added, as well as numerous editions of the MTB and Trial World Cup. Furthermore, on December 11th and 12th Vermiglio, in Val di Sole, will welcome for the first time the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup, with a unique event that will see athletes racing on the snowpack.
“Val di Sole is a small valley that has showed its commitment and faith in cycling,” President Rizzi said during the award ceremony. - “We are honored to receive this recognition, to be the first UCI Bike Region in Italy and to become part of this big family. We are grateful to President David Lappartient and the entire UCI for this honor, that clinches a lengthy process carried out over the years with vision, determination and consistency”.
