COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 11 SEPTEMBER 2016 – Italy’s Andrea Bianciotto did not manage to repeat the same excellent run he did on Saturday in the seeding session when he set the best time. 17-year-old athlete from Piedmont region surrendered to Canadian power featuring super favourite Finnley Iles (gold in World Cup DH Junior) and surprising Magnus Manson on the podium. Silver medallist, 18-year-old Italo-Canadian athlete, with Italian mother (ex track pursuit athlete in the 80s), gained 2 fourth places in the last two World Cup rounds in Mont-Sainte Anne (Canada) and Vallnord (Andorra). Gaetan Vige took third, after a great World Cup season: second in the overall behind Iles, three victories for him.
Finnley Iles set the fastest time of 3:47:405, leaving his fellow countryman Manson behind at 3.796 and French Vige at 4.610. USA’s Nikolas Nestoroff (+5.468) finished fourth, while on Saturday’s qualifying runs he clocked the second best time. Junior World Champion did an excellent run considering that Queen Rachel Atherton won with a time of 4:20:186 thirty-three seconds more.
Thousands of spectators crowd up along the Black Snake and on the terraces near the finish line to watch two enthralling competitions on a challenging and rowdy course where only champions win.
