COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), SEPTEMBER 7 2016 – “Who am I? I’m a simple guy who is determined to make his dreams come true”. There is nothing better than this short but significant expression, written by Alessandro Avigliano on his Facebook profile, to understand who he is and why his participation in the 2016 UCI Mountain Bike Champs Val di Sole is actually very special.
Alessandro is a 32-year-old guy from Torbole (Trento) and since 2006 he has lived with an artificial leg. It’s a tragic result of an accident occurred while he was driving his scooter in 2003, he was only 18 years old. His point of view has totally changed - also because he was a rugby athlete - but at the same time, although he gained new awareness of his condition, unfortunately he began to have breakdowns and epileptic crises.
These were very tough years for him, but Mountain biking gave him a new vision and a new goal, driven by his resolution. Mountain biking became his own way to release stress and start again, a fundamental change. “Carbonhook” is the nickname he earned because of his artificial leg made of carbon-fiber and his strong personality.
He started a new business of bike shuttle named “Garda Bikersolution”, – transport service and mtb guide on the northern shore of Garda Lake – and later began to intensify his exercises in view of a significant step forward in his private and paracycling lives. We are talking about the unique opportunity offered by theOrganizing Committee of 2016 UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Champs in Val di Sole. He will be the forerunner together with legendary Steve Peat for the DHI Elite Races. They will make sure that the track is ready and in perfect conditions for the official competition that will take place on 11 September at 12:45.
We will see Alessandro Avigliano’s friendly smile on the challenging Black Snake, where he trained during these last days to study the track designed by expert Pippo Marani.
“Everyone should be inspired by Alessandro – commented Sergio Bordati, president of Val di Sole O.C. 2016 – and by anyone who shows us the importance of having a positive attitude in our lives, not to let problems tear us apart but keep thinking and believing that there is always hope and a chance to win. This is the mountain biker’s spirit”.
