COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 11 SEPTEMBER 2016 – About 40 specialized doctors and nurses operate in the first aid rescue squad along the tracks of 2016 UCI Mtb&Trials World Championships Val di Sole 2016. It’s the staff of the Provincial Health Services, who guarantees first aid service on the occasion of great sport events organized in Trentino. This year it’s UCI Mtb&Trilas World Championships in Val di Sole 2016.
Its a squad that organizers and athletes hope will never be necessary but in competitions with a high risk of injury such as Downhill races, must be promptly available in case of accidents. In these days in Daolasa near the Black Snake track, at the surgery located near the press office, several bumps, cuts and a few fractures have already been treated. Three interventions required the use of the helicopter in order to take injured riders to the hospital of Santa Chiara in Trento for further checks in case of pelvis or abdominal traumas.
Coordinator of the group is Claudio Ramponi, Head of Emergency and First Aid Department of the Santa Chiara Hospital backed by Ilaria Paris, specialized nurse working in Trento. But the staff consists of doctors from the Tione and Rovereto Hospitals, helped by 118 Emergency nurses and First Aid.
The Croce Rossa d’Italia in Dimaro is providing its support too. This rescue squad operated in the first week in Vermiglio for the UCI Trials Worlds and the Masters Cross country World Championship and then in Daolasa for the Downhill World Championships Masters and now Elite.
Great attention and important planning was given to the Downhill race. As it happens for Downhill Alpine Skiing, first aid stations have been placed along the track in the most critical points. A nurse is ready near The Wall section, then a doctor and a nurse in the The Hell area and of course another group at the finish line.
This type of work is made possible thanks to the close collaboration between the Croce Rossa, volunteer Fire Brigades and Alpine rescue squads in Val di Sole. These two latter bodies intervene in case of fire and transfer burned persons to Trento Hospital.
