Two thousand two hundred metres of pure adrenaline. This is the Black Snake of Daolasa, the Downhill track that on Sunday 11 September will play host to the most spectacular race of the Uci Mtb World Championships Val di Sole-Trentino, at the end of the calendar of events organized by the O.C. Great Events. The course ranks among the top in the world. Mountain bikers consider this Downhill track in the same way as Alpine skiers consider the Streif in Kitzbuehel; they are comparable in terms of difficulty and tradition. For this reason great athletes love it or hate it. Only the best, the great champions have been able to win here in Trentino, first of all USA’s Aaron Gwin and UK’s brothers Gee Atherton and Rachel Atherton, just like Bode Miller and Norway’s Aksel Lung Svindal on Austria’s ski slope. Champions of speed and adrenaline lovers really enjoy riding down the track in Val di Sole.
As other famous tracks, the most spectacular sections of the Black Snake have a name: among the most popular is The Hell, its meaning gives the right idea of what competitors will expect during the race.
Along the 540 metres of elevation gain (start at 1,350 metres at the intermediate station of the gondola lift Daolasa-Val Mastellina and finish at 810 metres), last year course designer Pippo Marani added ten spectacular jumps, half of them in the final section. Further improvement have been done this year too ensuring a great show for the 20,000 spectators awaited for 2016 Val di Sole World Champs.
Thanks to the modern Bike Arena already tested in 2015, spectators will be able to watch the races from two stands. «Similar to what happens in Alpine skiing - explains Aldo Bordati, President of the Great Events Committee Val di Sole -. The challenge is to bring the riders as close to the public as possible. The 4X event will be held at night, on a 600-metre-floodlit course. And we expect a large public for a great show. For this reason there will be a 50 square metres large screen, top range».
In order to watch the show, spectators will have to buy a ticket. Also Val di Sole had to comply with Uci World Champs guidelines, fixing a price for the access to the racecourses. The cost will be 20 euros for Saturday and Sunday, including the gondola ride. Children under 8 go free. Residents in Trentino will have a special discount of 50%. Tickets can be bought online from the official website valdisolebikeland.com. The ticket will also include other services and shows that will enrich the spectators’ experience at the UCI MTB World Championships final.
