Not only downhill on the Black Snake. For a few hours on Saturday 10 September the legendary track in Daolasa will play host to an enthralling uphill race, "Vertical Run Race", riders will have to climb the track that will host the downhill event at the Val di Sole World Champs. The event is organized in collaboration with the Associazione Sportiva Ski Alp Val di Sole headed by Franco Podetti.
The technical data of the non-competitive race are exactly the same as the downhill only the other way round: 540 elevation gain uphill for 2.2 Km overall.
A race terrain similar to the best mountain uphill runs, as Davide Magnini said, Italian Champion and vice European discipline Champion Under 20, as well as winner of international races in ski mountaineering.
Magnini – 19 years old from Vermiglio – commented on the initiative: "the race is truly fascinating, a very clever idea to promote mountain running and the Vertical Kilometer in particular. Usually these events do not attract a large public but organizing the race during a World event will provide excellent exposure and promotion among sport lovers who, I hope, will be enthralled by this event. But apart for this the great value is brought by the track itself which could excite the Vertical specialists among which my friend Nicola Pedergnana, already Italian champion in this discipline who lives in nearby Pejo".
Magnini on 10 September won’t be present for the uphill race on the Black Snake. "Unfortunately I have to take part in the mountain running world championships; I’m really sorry because the Vertical Run Race is an important event to show our sport to the world and most of all I like to take part in events organized in Val di Sole".
The Vertical Run Race will take place from 17hrs on Saturday 10 September, just after the end of the World Downhill qualifying runs.
Registration is open from 15:30 on the same day at the Accreditation Room in the Town Council building in Commezzadura paying a fee of 15 euros, which includes plenty of freebies and the possibility of going back down with the lift facilities. At 20hrs the prize giving ceremony will take place and on Sunday you can watch the enthralling show of the Downhill World event.
