COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 9 September 2016 – Running uphill from the finish line to the start. Magic Black Snake, not only the most beloved and hated track but also the craziest and wildest of the mountain bike world, but also the only one able to host a true Vertical Run race, owing to its technical features. Tomorrow afternoon the legendary track in Daolasa will reverse its direction for the stunning "Vertikal Run Race". Competitors will run up the fab Downhill track staging the 2016 UCI Mtb World Championships in Val di Sole 2016.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Associazione Sportiva Ski Alp Val di Sole. This crazy idea came to its president Franco Podetti who is very busy organizing both the Mtb DHI and the uphill climb. He is one of the men who promoted Mtb in this beautiful area of Trentino but also a fan of sky running and tomorrow he will be racing.
“The idea came when I saw how steep the track is. Why not try to climb it - I asked myself – and use it for a very tough vertical race, considering that the steepest sections reach 40% gradient”. A perfect mountain running trail, as confirmed by Davide Magnini, Italian Champion and European vice champion Under 20 in this speciality. "The race is surely enthralling, a great idea to promote mountain running and the vertical KM. Usually this type of races do not have a large public but the possibility of organizing everything in the heart of an international event such as the UCI Mtb Worlds, will certainly provide exposure and promotion for this sport and enchant many mountain lovers ".
The technical data of this promotional non-competitive race are the same of the downhill, but the other way round: 540 metres elevation gain for an overall length of 2.2 km uphill.
The Vertical Run Race is scheduled tomorrow at 17 just after the Downhill World Champs qualifying runs.
Registration is open from 15:30 at the Accreditation Room in the Town Hall of Commezzadura and the fee is 15 euros, including a wide range of freebies and the possibility of getting a lift back down on the gondola. At 20hrs the final prize giving will take place and the stage will be ready again for Sunday’s spectacular Downhill World Championships race.
