COMMEZZADURA (VAL DI SOLE – TRENTINO), 11 SEPTEMBER 2016 – Expectations met in Downhill Elite women’s race: British Rachel Atherton crowned World Champion for the second year in a row and triumphs again in Val di Sole after 2008 victory. Rachel Atherton sets the record number of Victories on the Black Snake in Daolasa (5). In her rich palmares she has now 5 World titles, of which one Junior and four Elite. She continues her stunning winning streak to 15 consecutive races. With the victory conquered in Trentino today she also sets a new record in her category.
On Saturday she had already set the best time in the timed runs, and practically repeated the same performance today with a time of 4’20”187.
On the podium stand also French Myriam Nicole who ended a troubled season (she skipped several races due to an injury) conquering silver 3.114 seconds behind Rachel Atherton. Australia’s Tracey Hannah took the third step of the podium 9.453 seconds back. She was not able to repeat the great time set in the timed runs, worrying the British star, ahead of only, 0.597 seconds. Marine Caribou, 19-year-old French reached a surprising fourth place, first year racing in Elite and winner of the 2015 Junior World Championship in Andorra. British Tahnée Seagrave finished fifth 25.299 back while fellow countrywoman Manon Carpenter (2014 World Champion) crashed out a few seconds after the start.
Italian Eleonora Farina slipped and finished 16th, while the other two Italian athletes Alia Marcellini and Veronika Widmann conquered sixth and seventh position respectively.
